BRITS Predictions: Were We Right?

Best Male:  DT Said: PLAN B     Actual Winner: PLAN B

Best Female: DT Said: CHERYL COLE  Actual Winner: LAURA MARLING (glad we were wrong here, we love Laura here at Dubturtle)

British Breakthrough Act: DT Said: Mumford & Sons  Actual Winner: Tinie Tempah

British Group: DT Said: Take That   Actual Winner: Take That

British Single: DT Said: Plan B She Said   Actual Winner: Tinie Tempah Pass Out
(I dont know why I said Plan B in the end, when I said Tinie would win this one on my radio show..ah well..

British Album:  DT Said: Take That Progress   Actual Winner: Mumford & Sons  Sigh No More
(pleasantly surprised here, love the Mumford album.)

International Male: DT Said: Eminem   Actual Winner:  Cee Lo
(another pleasant surprise, they must've got rid of the BRITS Rulebook that says Eminem must win..)

International Female:  DT Said: Rihanna   Actual Winner:  Rihanna
(after the year she's had, who else couldve won tbh.)

International Group: DT Said:  Arcade Fire   Actual Winner: Arcade Fire
(YES!!)

International Album: DT Said: Arcade Fire  The Suburbs   Actual Winner: Arcade Fire  The Suburbs
(YES!!!!!!!!!!)

International Breakthrough: DT Said: The National  Actual Winner:  Bieber
(and not forgetting Mike!  BRITS viewers will know what I mean..)

So all in all, a great mix of surprise winners.  Who should've won, actually won  in the end.

and now to our Performance Predictions.. half right, half wrong. we were expecting Predictable-ness..we didnt get it..

Take That opened with Kidz.  we got that right.

Plan B hit medley.  we got that right, though we said he'd do Stay Too Long - and he didnt. sadly.

Rihanna hit medley.  we got that right.

Tinie Tempah.  we said Pass Out  but he ended up doing quite a few.

Adele.  we said Rolling In The Deep, because its a CHOON and its her single.  She ended up surprising everyone with an extremely stripped Piano-and-Vocal performance, with tears at the end.

Mumford & Sons.  we said The Cave.  they ended up doing an album track "Timshel"  another stripped down, introspective performance.  Which is a break from the normal Mumford-esque Jugband hoedown stompfest.

Cee Lo.  we said Forget You.  and he did.  and Paloma Faith joined him. and it was fun, and awesome.  Dubturtle has some form of wierd crush on Paloma..we dont know why..

Arcade Fire. we said We Used To Wait.   they ended up doing Ready To Start, which is in all honesty a better one.  and they were AMAZING.  The Fire has arrived.

Evaluation: Great host, unpredictable winners, unpredictable performances, nothing went wrong, slick.
Nothing like the BRITS of yore.  The move to the 02 was a huge success.  James Corden needs to stay.  All in all, a great watch  and a great way to celebrate the awesomenessity of British Music.  even if Justin Bieber did win an award...

Grammys and that

I'm such a dedicated blogger.  I stayed up last night to watch the Grammys online.
I live in England.
Up till about 5am.  Ugh.

Basically, it wasnt a bad show at all.    Lady Gaga, just like her single, didnt live up to the hype.
I think the problem here is us. Its our fault.  Maybe we expect too much of this girl?
Maybe she is just hype after all...

Muse rocked!  They deserve all the plaudits they get!
Justin Bieber and Jaden Smith also surprised me.  We should hate these guys.  And generally I do,
but They're kids!  and they owned that stage!  That has to be respected whatever genre you're into.

Mumford And Sons. Avett Brothers. Bob Dylan.  ALL ON THE SAME STAGE.
SQUEE!!!!

Eminem and Dre was amazing, as to be expected.

I cant remember anything else, probably because I was up at 4am and not really aware of anything, so Im pretty impressed I remembered this much to be honest.

Here is the Mumford, Avett and Dylan clip as courtesy of DailyMotion:

Shellsessions: Muddy Suzuki

Muddy Suzuki
Welcome to Dubturtle's Shellsessions. This is where we profile an exciting new band for you to get your teeth into.

We introduce to you today: Muddy Suzuki. A crazily good, crazy music man.
Real name being Damo Waters.   This guy has drummed for 3 of my favourite acts.
The Electric Soft Parade. Field Music. Thomas White.

And now he's doing musicy thing on his ownsome.  And its AWESOME!!  Dubturtle approves.

In his own words?
English eccentric pop/rock-smithery, with a side order of psychedelia, lashings of nonsense, and prog for pudding.

That blurb alone should be enough to satisfy your happy glands, but if you want to hear his stuff for yourself you can do at these various sites:

You get the picture.

DUBTURTLE RECOMMENDS:- GEARSTICK CABARET

Lets all drink to Muddy Suzuki !
